Upcoming Metro Region Events
Listed below are events planned for the METRO REGION in December.
LAST BASIC TEAM MANAGER TRAINING SESSIONS
(Please email email@example.com to let me know you plan to attend.)
December 10: Rex Putnam HS Library, 4950 SE Roethe Road, Milwaukie (nearer Gladstone than “downtown” Milwaukie); 6:00 pm.-8:30 pm
December 16: Beaverton Activities Center, 12500 SW Allen Blvd. (cross street Hall Blvd.); 6:00 pm.-8:30 pm
INSTANT CHALLENGE NIGHTS FOR TEAMS
All events have the same start/stop time: 6:30 pm set up; 6:45 teams start; 8:15 pm finish.
December 11: Eastham Community Center, 1404 7th St., Oregon City, lower level cafeteria
December 17: Bridlemile Elementary, 4300 SW 47th Drive, Portland; Multipurpose room
January 6: Beaverton Main Library, 12375 SW 5th Street, Beaverton, Meeting Room B (limited to 10 teams based on size of room)
These events are an intense night of IC focus where teams will do up to 7 challenges with other teams doing DI. This is an optional activity but teams seem to really enjoy the practice and Team Managers find it helpful to view how OTHER teams solve the same challenge.
HOW DOES IT WORK? Your team (or most of your team) brings 2 responsible adults plus one instant challenge and the supplies to do the challenge 7 times. One adult (usually the Team Manager) moves from table to table with the team while the other adult stays at the table to administer the challenge. Roving IC observers also provide feedback to teams and/or offer a challenge of their own. We rarely have duplicate challenges, but just in case, there are always 2-3 challenges with supplies on hand. Since this is such short notice, PLEASE RSVP firstname.lastname@example.org.
And the Oregon DI tee-shirts just arrived! Check out the shirt graphic attached!

Information Nights in Lake Oswego & Beaverton
Two additional information nights have been scheduled for the Metro Region. These events are both open to the public, so if you live near by and are interested in learning more about forming your own Destination Imagination team, please attend! Teams will continue to form through November, as the students work toward a March 1 regional tournament at Century HS.
TUESDAY OCTOBER 29 - WESTRIDGE ELEMENTARY IN LAKE OSWEGO
- Address: In the library at 3400 Royce Way in Lake Oswego
- Time: 6:30-7:30 p.m.
WEDNESDAY NOVEMBER 6: OAK HILLS ELEMENTARY IN BEAVERTON
- Address: 2625 NW 153rd, Beaverton
- Time: 6:30-7:30 p.m.
These events are for adults and also for students. We will share a team-produced video about being on a DI team and other information about forming teams. Kids or adults can try their hand at a couple of instant challenges to get a feel for the heart of the program.
Reminder: First Metro training sessions Sun. & Mon.
This is just a reminder that the first two training sessions are being held this Sunday (10/13) from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. and Monday (10/14) from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. The Sunday afternoon session is in Portland and the same information will be repeated Monday evening in Beaverton. There is still room in both sessions.
Email Donna@oregondi.org to confirm participation and get directions.
While most of those attending will have already registered their team for 2013-2014, it is not a requirement to attend training. Also, if more than one adult wants to attend, that is not only acceptable, it is preferable.
And finally, participation in one of these sessions is a qualifying event to reduce your tournament registration fee. It is like we are PAYING you to attend!

To get the Program Guide above with the full set of challenges, you must first purchase a team pak. Until you are ready to do that, check out the national Destination Imagination website (www.idodi.org). There are lots of great materials for you to read, or print and share with your students, friends who might be interested in DI, neighbors, etc. The materials are under the DOWNLOAD tab on the front page of the website. EXCITING NEWS! New modules will be added to DI University (online training) this year. The courses are in final review and should be available in September! We think these are a great way to review or reinforce training received at one of the group training sessions offered this year.
An ultimate instant challenge
ORDI board member/challenge master (and DI/OM alum) Eileen McMillan married long time tournament volunteer, Jon Provancher under beautiful sunny skies July 6. Proud parents, Margaret and Bob, could not have planned a more perfect day. Congratulations Eileen and Jon!
More photos from Global Finals
The Challenges were important (it was why the teams were there!) but there was plenty of time to do other things. Check out the awesome duct tape costumes for the Duct Tape Ball! Here’s more graduation pictures and just a few more pictures of Oregon teams hanging out. The last picture is a costume made by a team from another state: a rattle snake made from coffee cup lids! pretty cool.
