TEAM OREGON heads to Global Finals

Oregon DI will be sending a strong contingent of 14 teams to Global Finals at the end of May. Teams will compete with first place teams from other states, provinces and countries in one of 6 six challenges. Several of the Oregon teams have competed at Global Finals in previous years.

Global Finals is the culminating event of every Destination Imagination season. The 14 Oregon teams will join 1,250 teams from 45 states, 7 Canadian provinces and 13 countries gather to showcase their Challenge solutions. Well over 15,000 people are expected to attend Global Finals to celebrate creativity and have fun. The competition is held at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville May 22-25, 2013.

Adele Zawada, one member of the Girls In Motion team from Lake Oswego was awarded a DISC scholarship and selected as the Valedictorian of Global Finals 2013.  Her video application is viewable at http://www.globalfinals.org/blog/2013-valedictorian-announcement. Devon O’Donnell of Salem was also awarded a DISC scholarship. Congratulations to both students!

The qualifying tournament in Oregon was April 6 and 17 teams earned a position, but not every team opted to make the trip. In addition to preparing to compete, the 14 teams headed to Global Finals, plus their families and supporters, have been working hard to finish school work, and earn the money necessary to ship their props and travel to Tennessee. Events have included can drives, garage sales, school dances or talent shows, plant sales, car washes, restaurant dining events, electronics recycling and movie screenings - anything that can be organized, publicized, operated and “cashed out” in a 6 week time frame. It is a lot of work, but it will be well worth the effort, as Global Finals is an amazing experience.
